Ayurveda: an introduction by David Frawley (page 2)

Movements are underway to grant credibility and seek legalization of Ayurveda in the United States as well. Notably, the National Ayurvedic Medical Association just had its first national conference in Florida and proves to become an important mouthpiece for Ayurveda in this country. However, compared to such organizations as AAPI, it remains quite small and with very limited resources.

Ayurveda is an important aspect of the Indian tradition which deserves study, support and patronage, as well as further research and practice. Should Ayurveda gain the attention and regard it deserves, it can aid the world in a renaissance of mind-body medicine. The Ayurvedic community both in the West and in India would therefore encourage AAPI to take up the cause of Ayurveda, not simply as a cultural concern but also in pursuit of the real truth of healing, in which consciousness is as important as any outer treatment modality. Ayurveda's ecological view of the need to harmonize the individual, society and nature, is also becoming increasingly relevant as we move more into a planetary age.
